Diverticulitis Support Group
Diverticulitis is a common disease of the bowel, in particular the large intestine. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches on the outside of the colon. Diverticulitis results if one of these diverticula becomes inflamed. Diverticulitis most often affects middle-aged and elderly persons, though it can strike younger patients as...
The problem with trying to help you with what you should eat is everybody with Diverticulosis is different. I was on another forum that was really busy for a few years and so many people posted in that forum. Most of the people who posted swore different foods like pizza and bread caused flare ups. Some said, seeds, nuts, popcorn. corn. just about anything. Then there is a few, actually quite a few of us that swear stress is the trigger. I am one of the stress people as I have always eaten everything and when I retired from my very stressful job my attacks of Diverticulitis totally quit. I still eat everything, except I find, as many others have that if I eat to many vegetables such as broccoli, I start to get a small pain in my gut so I have actually cut down on my fiber.
Soluble fiber, in my opinion as oatmeal, oat bran is the very best kind of fiber you can eat.
Listen to your body and it will tell you what makes you feel good.
A lot of people swear by probiotics. I get mine from yogurt and food rather than buy the pills. A lot of people like the pills better. As I said whatever works for you.
I wish you the very best of luck and hope you stay attack free.
If you ever do start to feel pain or think you are having an attack immediately stop eating food and only drink clear liquids.
