I have not had shingles but have developed a skin condition called urticaria/hives, which my dermatologist thinks is my body reacting to the diverticulitis. It definitely makes the misery of diverticulitis that much worse.

Were you able to get rid of it? My shingles are about gone, but I was told that could come back.

Some days are better than others but it has never completely went away. The surgery to remove the bad part of colan sounds scary but I am already so sick of dealing with diverticulitis that I'm giving it some serious thought.

That is scary. How long have you had diverticulitis? I do not know much about the surgery or the recovery time. This is a hard disease to deal with.

I have been dealing with stomach issues for the last 9 months but it didn't get bad enough for them to diagnose it until 3 months ago. Most people I talk to clear up completely 10 days after starting antibiotics and a lot of times will go up to several years before having another flare up. I am getting ready to start my 3rd round of antibiotics because it either keeps coming back or has never completely cleared up. It is not any fun, that's for sure. I think the mental part of it is worse than the physical symptoms. I've been on and off of the liquid diet so much I've lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months.

They keep wanting to do ct scans to confirm and that's starting make me nervous about I've radiation exposure. Dr keeps telling me there is nothing to worry about but many sources on the internet say different.

I am sorry to hear that you are in so much pain and that you keep having flare ups. When I was diagnosed the doctor put me on 2 antibiotics and I was on a liquid diet for 3 days, then I only are a little bit at a time. No fiber. Now I eat a yogurt and dry toast for breakfast. A protein drink and a couple crackers f or lunch. Then a very light supper with a little fish or chicken and rice , potatoes or pasta. I take aloe Vera juice 2 times a day and Metamucil 2 times a day, I feel pretty good. My left side always feels a little painful and I have twinges in other areas. I guses I am pretty lucky..

Hi. I have a question. I'm a female 53. His is my 3rd bout of diverticulitis the first bein 10 years ago and the second 5 years ago. They were both up around the waist area and went away quickly with antibiotics. This flair confirmed by Ct scan was 10 weeks ago and was low left sigmoid colon. I had a colonoscopy 4 weeks later and was told one picked was still inflamed and was put. Back on antibiotics. I had another Ct scan at 6 weeks bc I was still having pain. They could find nothing wrong. After the colonoscopy tho the dr said it might have perforated bc it was still inflamed. Now 10 weeks later I still have twinges in the spot off and on nothing really to painful but I'm wondering if this will ever go away. Thanks. ShAwn

I had diver about 4 weeks ago and had a horrible reaction to the cipro (neuropathy issues with nerves). They took me off. I now have shingles. I think it’s tied in to the cipro in some way and am not suprised to see others have shingles after having diver. Shingles is also a neuropathic issue. It sucks and I’m never taking cipro again but I think it’s related to triggering the shingles in some way.
