i was diagnosed with my first flare up 4 years ago, since then I have had 5 more, 1 requiring hospitalization. The enduring legacy of my first 4 flare ups has been the complications from cipro, which is as bad as the flare up, after consulting with 3 GI surgeons and specialists, an additional diagnosis of IBS-C, the Dr's finally agreed that I have a sensitivity to the Flouroquine family. Truth be told, the cipro has provided 3 years of agonizing tendonitis, which mimicks the flare up(s). I've been taking Constella/Lizness which has eased the GI pain and nerve pain tremendously, I've had 3 colonscopies, no polyps only more Diverticular pockets. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Is the cipro soley reponsible for the constant cramping in my colon or is this part of the Diverticular condition? There are times where my back, hip shoulder have felt frozen or locked and I could barely move from the extended clenching. I have found relief from the nerve pain/damage with THC Oil and CBD and H2O, lots of H2O.
I'm getting better at catching the flare ups earlier, switching to clear liquids, shut down the eating for pleasure part of life and my diet is mostly lo-residue everything, no red meat and mostly chicken and fish, little to no bread. Given that I have reduced the GI misery of a flare up is 14 days of every 6 months or so, with 6-8 weeks of post flare up recovery. (its the best diet I have never paid for.)
Do others have this many flare-ups? From what I've discussed the surgical route can improve the condition but the long term problems with Bariatric surgery are well documented, most notably thickening of the scar tissue at point of dissection. Given that, I respond well to antibiotic treatment Septra and Flagyl.(that is, I can avoid hospitalization.)
Principally, have others had the lingering nerve pain from Cipro and how many flare ups do others have a year? (I understand stress and other variables can bring the condition on, so omitting those and with a well maintained diet and what not, how many of you are haveing more than 1 or 2 flare ups a year? What is considered normal?
