Can this be diverticulitis?

I've had diverticulitis a few times. Two pretty bad attacks and a couple of mild ones. This time it's different. Yesterday I started having sharp twinges in my lower left side. It was on and off. Not very bothersome except for the fear of what it may mean. Now today the pain is gone, but I have some nausea and have gone to the bathroom numerous times until there is nothing left. Can this be diverticulitis? I have a refill for my prescriptions so if it is, I can start them. But I don't want to take them, if it isn't necessary. Now I also don't know what to eat. I've been eating a high fiber diet. Should I eat low fiber foods today? Always in the past my attacks have come with pain and tenderness all over the abdomen and chills. Any advice would be appreciated. I know with my last attack two doctors said to take medicine as soon as possible next time so I don't run into trouble.

You know what I would Do ?? I would Stop with the eating...go to Clear Liquids, Making SURE to get ur Electrolytes at Least til ya know one way or the other.

I Often get the Twinges, and they subside within a few hours of going to the bathroom..I have had 3 Attacks, and when I am going into Infected Mode I get a Rapid Heart Rate...Not Super Fast...but Usually a good 20 Beats faster then my Normal..and I Just Generally do Not Feel well..Ill at Ease.

But yea...thats what I would DO..the Most Important part of ur Diet is the Fluids with Electrolytes..and If you believe you are going into another attack then go up ang get Labs done...I always insist on Labs because I don't want to take meds if I don't have to..

Sometimes the Labs are Wrong tho, My Last Attack I awoke SO Sick, in More Pain then I have EVER Felt...my Labs came back Normal...so he thought I had something else going on...Irritated Bladder Syndrome...and I read up on that...sounded right...so I waited 2 Days to go back in...Good LORD was I Sick by that Point...Yea, my WBC had Tripled..

You Know your Body, You Been thru this a few Times..Is your Tummy Tender at all ?

Hi!

It could also be some IBS. I get all sorts of strange things that happen and I get freaked out thinking it's an attack. Some times it can last for 3 days or so then it goes away. My specialist says IBS is very common with most people who have intestinal problems. Wait it out just to see.

My abdomen is not tender at all. I wouldn't think this is an episode except that for about 24hours I was having those pains on the lower left.

Perhaps not then...and lets HOPE Not !! Like I said, I get Twinges alot..as Long as My Tummy is Not Tender, and I feel OK other then that I don't get to concerned..But I would Still Up the Liquids just to Help everything thru..

I have the same twinges and bowel changes with my IBS, and at first it did freak me out and I automatically thought Diverticulitis... I agree that getting blood work, and then a repeat of the blood work [even 24 hours can make a difference.] would be a good idea. And yes to eating a diet that is easy on the tummy until this subsides. Also, I agree that you know your body best. It's just hard not to freak when you know you have the potential for an icky infection. Big hugs!!! Hope it's just IBS.

well the pain and twinges on my left side from what my doctor told me is where my scare tissue is that acts up now and then.. but usally its with constatpation.then diareaha follows after about 5 days. I to got chills and cramping and not being able to lay down and sleep more than 4 hours.meds did little to help. when that happens i went on low fiber diet and drank all the water I could handle. but now I have found something that has changed my health the past 3 months. I haven't had a flare up in 2 months and no constapation at all. the cramping and pain is gone and I sleep a good 6 hours now.so there is stuff besides meds that have so many side effects out there that will help.god bless you..

Oops... I was bending down at the library and I felt the "twinge." This morning I tried to make a high step onto a porch without stairs, and now I am in severe pain.... How could that be the diverticulitis? It seems precipitated by movement or pulling of the groin. It is so painful that i want to throw up, but I am sick of going to doctors appts!
