After 4 to 5 diverticulitis attacks over the last approx. 8 years and most recently after a CT scan and blood work, they diagnosed me with "smoldering diverticulitis" that has developed after my last attack in September. I am trying to stabilize my symptoms. After 4 days of taking Amox without a change, my doctor then switched me to a regimen of Ciprofloxacin 2x a day and Metronidazole 3x a day for a week now, I am slowly starting to get positive effects from these medications. They are pushing for surgery as the next step. I wanted to see if anyone has had any input or other positive results with any alternative treatments. I am also meeting with a surgeon tomorrow and would greatly appreciate any questions that I should ask the surgeon. Thank you very much!
The surgery itself is painful and my recovery was about 4-6 weeks. We all heal and deal with surgeries at different levels and I made the decision to be positive and work towards getting back to my life asap.
My best friends mother died from not having the surgery and developed a blockage which also helped with my decision. My nephew was 29 and had emergency sigmoid colostomy surgery.
