Diverticulitis is a common disease of the bowel, in particular the large intestine. Diverticulitis develops from diverticulosis, which involves the formation of pouches on the outside of the colon. Please keep us updated on how you are whenever ya can !! Healing Prayers will Continue !!
I was so craving fresh air for sure.
I Also had my Surgery while you were Away, sounds like we had a similar Experience in that we Both had adhesions..plus I had 2 Fistulas into my Left Ovary, so they took that as well, and my Appendix simply cause they were in there.
At least we got our Answers for Why we kept feeling So Poorly and Now we are Both on the Road to Healing !!
I have not Ventured to Far away from home, a bit here and there..the weather here in the North Country has been Beautiful, so I am Thankful for that during at least the Initial Healing Phase, where I Live it can get Really Ugly early in the Fall.
I had my Surgery Sept.16th. When did you have yours ? in August ? It has been so Long since I have seen you on here..you were posting regularly, then disappeared....Again, TY for Letting us Know what was going on with you, and that you are Now OK !! I am Sorry you had to Deal with SO Much all at Once..If you Journal your Experience I would Love to Read about it..This can be such a Scary Experience..I almost Feel Betrayed by my Body, as I Took pretty darn good care of Self thru the Years..This Took an Emotional Toll on me I was Not Expecting.
Anyway..I am right here, will check in with ya to see how things are Progressing for you..Warm hugs Aus..
Sorry you had such a bad time & they took so much.
I dont have appendix overeis (full hysterectomy), gall bladder so lots of remanants/adhesions.
They did say my bowel had leaked/exploded inside so made it harder to clean up. As I said I was on morphine pump to start with for close to a week then oral then they had to try to get me off it.
The worst was then the cough which was killing with pain & I couldnt breathe - thats what led to "hospital acquied dbl pneumonia". Then they took days to track infection & it was a "superbug" This means for next 12 months I have to be isolated for any surgeries du possibility of spreading it etc.
Went in with 1 thing & got more from being in hospital. It is going to be a long recovery thats for sure. I cant walk far, fall asleep mid conversation etc.
At least the wound is finally healing & not weeping anymore. I still have to go back for follow up with surgeons, chest xrays & I dont know what else. Will get letters & phone calls etc. Surgeons said I will have a lot of pain for a while as it is major surgery/wound & inside has barely started to heal. I will be off work for at least anothers o $$ month are going to be tight for while.
I have really struggled emotionally too. There has just been too much happen in short time & I was emotional wreck. I did break a couple of times & was lucky that had good nurses with me at the times. Got sick of hearing how strong I was, how I didnt complain when others with less were doing nothing but etc etc. I just wanted to go home & get food I could eat too.
If it hadnt been for ensure some days all I would have had was breakfast & a sandwhich.
I am enjoying food at home but struggling to eat much so eat a little frequently & drinking heaps to flush catheter etc.
Sorry for rambling but so nice to have people who understand too
They Came in Every Hour to do the Breathing Exercises with me..I Did NOT Like this...AT ALL, Plus they got me Up out of Bed the same Day as My Surgery...UGH. I Knew this was gonna Happen, have had 5 Prior Abdominal Surgeries...so I Knew the Importance of it. One of my Surgeries they had done a spinal tap, gave me the Headache, I could do Nothing after the surgery for like 2 days...OH this did NOT help me at All ! had to Lay Flat, so the Breathing/Coughing Exercises were a Real B%^*#.
I Actually Started my Breathing Exercises while IN the recovery Room Still...had em give me a Rolled up Towel to Hold Tight against my Incision.
I was Thinking last Night about You. and All you have had to Endure. I Know you have Other Health issues as well, ( Me Too). So the Importance of having this Surgery Before you have had SEVERAL Attacks, Making urself Weaker and Sicker yet is a Step I would Never hesitate to take. I Had Hope, Fueled by my Dr.s who Kept saying I had a MILD case, well, a MILD case does Not Keep Recurring..and Once they were IN There they Knew I was Really Sick with this.
Surgery CAN Bring on Scar Tissue, But So Does this Disease...that is a Guarantee..After you have had 2 + Attacks I would Just Simply get it Out. Don't think ur gonna Control it cause the damage is Accumulative and does NOT Go away...Only going to get Worse, with the Risks being to Great.
Is Surgery a Guarantee that this will Never come back ? Nope. sure isn't.. And there are of course Risks With the Surgery Itself, But Risking a Perforation, Or Sepsis was TO Great for me to take.
And then There are the POTENT Meds they have you on...Good LORD those TORE Up my GUTS. Gastritis, Colitis, Acid Reflux..Yea, and NOT To Mention the Yeast Over Growth that will MOST Likely Develop, which means MORE Meds to Control That, which is Very Hard on Your Liver. IF Mine comes back, I would NOT hesitate to do yet another Surgery..The Pain and Discomfort from the Surgery for Me is Not nearly as Bad as The Pain, Discomfort, Sickness & FEAR I Had while Risking More Attacks.
The Longer a person Waits, the more Risk of Complications..I Pray hard that Mine will Never come back, they Took ALL My Diverticuli Disease, but it could still return. I will be Forever watchful, and Pray I Can stay on top of It. I will Never again Attempt to Just Control it with meds, as I Believe they just Weakened me anyway.
Prayers for ALL Who have Digestive Diseases.
Sorry to read you've been so sick! I don't know what else to day except that I hope you get well soon and GO AWAY MS NOW!!!
(((HUGS)))
I was doing the breathing from about day 2 I think but knew about it before & had been doing some deep breathing anyway as my oxygen levels were low.
I am glad I am home but I am so tired all the time its ridiculous. Make a coffee & I am stuffed.
I still have to have a wound dressing on the wound as it is still open but is cleaner & gradually closing up. In hospital i had a machine attached to the wound that pumped out all the gunk to help it heal quicker. That only got changed 2 times a week which was good.
Getting staples out was murder for me & i had the main wound & 2 others that hadnt healed over. So had wound dressings on all. My cut was right open length wise from rib cabe to pubic bone so definately not small & is taking time to heal.
Gradually healing & taking it slowly for sure.
I did Not get that LONG Cut, Nor am I Cut right IN the Belly Button, Just above and then Right below it to my Pelvic Bone... I DO believe this Makes a HUGE Difference is Pain & Healing Time. I had ALOT Of Belly Button Pain Prior to my Surgery, But None since.
I Also did Not get the Staples, I have had them with a Prior Surgery, but it Kinda Looks like I have been Glued back together, and then I have Surgi Tape, Which is STILL Not Coming Off...Ugh...I Just KNOW he is Gonna RIP the Crap Off...so am Anxious about Tomorrows Visit with Him !! I did Not have Pain when theu Removed my Staples, but that was because my Incision and the area around it was NUMB...still IS Numb to this day, the nerves Never came back.
Tho my BMs have Returned to Normal, I STILL have Discomforts and Some Anxiety with them. I wander How Long this lasts ?
I Also have a Bit of Anxiety when it Comes to Leaving Home, I Expected this somewhat, as we have gone thru an Emotional Time..I do get Out Everyday, Just a bit, and Not to Far, Not TO Much Stimulation. Hope this Backs Off Soon as well.
Please Please !! Keep us Updated as Your Recovery/Healing Continues..!! You are right ahead of me in the Healing Process and I SO Need a Hand to Hold !
My cut is a big one so has several really sore parts, I am thinking it is going to take a fair bit of time. When I said to one of the surgeons that the nurses were saying I shouldnt be in pain still (4 weeks after surgery) & his response was on the lines of you have been through major surgery & will be in pain for a while as the inside starts to heal.
It is definately baby steps.
My bm's are not back to normal at all. Some days I barely go & other days I have a gurgle & have to go in a hurry & very loose - this without movicol or similar, makes it hard to go out for long as I dont know when it is going to go.
I definately struggle to go out, mainly because I cant trust the bowel. Also energy level is not there.
I think you are probably a bit a head of me so thank you for sharing your journey too.
