Hello please read my story!!!! I am a 22 yr old female who was diagnosed with Divirticulosis on Feb. 5th, 2018. I have had some small GI complications in the past such as GERD/Acid reflux and polyps removed in my esophagus thinking it was the reason for my reflux. Anyway, on feb 3rd i began expierencing some burning pains in the evening which were tolerable and unusual for me, however i assumed it was from the beer and pizza I had at a superbowl party, i went to work the next day where all day i had this continous urge to go to the bathroom and this upset and burning pain with everything i ate, again i assumed it was the food I ate the day before. I am a vegatarian , have been my entire life, i stay away from bread, pasta and fast food and occasionally eat it and usually regret it when i do. So this is where i blamed the pizza and beer! well I checked myself into ER once this pain had shifted to my right side to the point i was doubled over and convinced my appendix was rupturing only for my CT scan to show inflammation of my colon and a Liter of fluid in my abdomen. Docs were baffled at my age and concered it was chrons. I was placed on antibiotics and stayed for 5 days where i ate nothing and had a colonoscopy done to confirm i do indeed have divirticulitis with no family Hx. They sent me home on oral Flagyl for 12 days, which i still didnt feel the greatest , i wasoff them for 2 weeks exactly when monday march 5th I was at work and i had sort of the same feeling by the time i drove myself home, the pain was so severe i had to be driven to ER for a second time!!!! this time it was worse, im covered in tatoos and i couldnt bare this pain or let alone walk. I was on high doses of morphine to try to get it under control, my CT scan showed it was 3x worse and i have a thickening around my appendix meaning infection because its so bad. They discussed surgery only for them to change there mind and send me home again after another 5 days of not eating an antibtoics convinced i will never have a flare uo an live normally ........ I am considering surgery, I am only 22 yr old and my GI doc explained that my divirtuculi are very severe and that i will have issues being so young and on my right side of my colon instead of people who normally present in the left sigmoid. I see surgery in my future for how severe these attacks are, but I have not personally heard of anyone getting the surgery and what there quality of life is afterwards !! sorry for the rant !
