I went to a surgeon for a consultation. She said she can not guarantee me good results because she is questioning if my episodes are diverticulitis. The reason she is questioning it is because my pain is never localized on my lower left side. When I have an attack my pains are always all over the abdomen. I have had blood work done at the time and it showed a bacterial infection, but I have never had a ct scan done at the right time. She said it would not be unreasonable to have the surgery it case it is diverticulitis because I do have the pouches on the lower left. I am returning to her in May (after a 2 week vacation I already have planned). I am suppose to make a decision then. Now I don't know what to do. I don't want surgery for no reason, but I am sick of getting sick and having these episodes. My colon feels swollen and painful we these attacks happen. She says some of my symptoms are what they should be, but I just don't get localized pain. Any advice? She also said when I have another attack I need to go to the ER and hopefully have a ct scan instead of just going on medicine.
