I've never been able to find a sports drink I can stomach. They all taste really salty to me and it's often a struggle to keep them down. I know they are full of electrolytes which are supposed to be good for me after a workout and that's likely where the salty taste comes from. My blood pressure is low to begin with and my doctor wants me to up my salt intake outside of my workouts but I can't stand the taste.
The best I can do is have a cup of broth about an hours or so after my workout. I'm not sure if this is too late to be of use or not.
I've only ever tried a sip of a redbull energy drink. They are nasty. It tastes like tinny cola. I already don't like cola so making it taste like metal is not an improvement. I know cola is very popular but I can't stand it. It puts me in mind of taste receptor for the braccias family (broccoli and the like) and I wonder if I'm tasting something in the cola that others simply don't. I like broccoli fine.
