Wheat free diets are usually based on gluten free diets. Gluten free diets are used to treat people who have celiac disease. Testing for that starts with a blood test. Approximately 1% of the population has a problem digesting gluten. Weight loss is often associated with this type of diet but so are certain nutrient deficiencies. Many people focus on the former and dismiss the later.
If you think you may have celiac disease I would recommend that you talk to your doctor.
I just wanted to say welcome and sorry I don't have any information on this subject.

You have to be diligent about reading labels though becasue a lot of things have wheat in them that you wouldn't expect.
