I like the emphasis of replacing whole wheat for white flour which can be subbed for just about anything now -- and with the right ingredients can taste pretty good too.
My only issue is when they start restricting " fruits and veggies".. I feel that these should be eaten freely and as much as possible.
It does have some great guidelines in it though.. I'd reccomend it ..
I would find it very difficult to give up pasta and rice. I turn to the eat a little less and move a little more solution when I need to lose weight. I try to cut foods with empty calories and keep my calorie count in the neighborhood of 1500
First...most folks will never eat "too much" protein...they just won't. Most folks digestive system won't tolerate a pure protein diet. You absolutely have to have carbs to process the protein. Otherwise, there's no vehicle for it to get to your muscles.
Second...you have to make incremental changes to your current lifestyle. If you go balls to the wall, you'll feel deprived and you'll binge...proven fact. It's just not worth it.
Third..balance, balance, balance. It's really as simple as that. Put your mind to it, do some research on balanced nutrition and rock and roll. Diabetic "diets" are truly the most balanced. They are higher in protein...which, nevermind the archaic food pyramid from the old days, you must have more protein in your diet than carbs...period.
While cutting processed ANYTHING isn't a bad idea...i'd worry more about sodium if it were me. OH...and don't forget the ever important WATER.
just my two cents.
Although it is classified as "low carb", it really ISN'T nearly as restrictive as Atkins! There are many fruits and veggies on the permitted list, including apples and pears. And as for being too high in protein, it doesn't have to be. There is no requirement for a certain number of protein grams.
As for the person who said she couldn't give up rice and pasta, BROWN rice is fine and so is WHOLE GRAIN pasta.
This diet is more like eating according to the Glycemic Index (which is also what diabetics do). Carbs are far from forbidden!!! We just substitute carbs that are lower on the Glycemic Index than those that use white sugar or flour.
Good luck!
