Next, I'd start with a calorie tracker and keep track of what you're eating. You'll probably be surprised how much it is. Most people should be in the 1800 to 22oo range. (I use "Lose It", but there are many others) Keep a daily log of your weight too, at the same time of the day, like before you get in the morning shower.
And here is where the honesty part comes in. you have to be super careful to count everything correctly. That finger full of peanut butter you eat when making lunch? yeh, that counts. Any attempt to rationalize it because "it's just a taste" etc. etc. undermines your count. So perhaps a week into your calorie counting, you'll have a pretty good picture of your eating habits.
Now comes the hard part. You have to cut back. And, you have to be ruthless about staying on task. Go online or use the calorie tracker app to make a plan. Start modest, like 1lb per week. This will mean you will have to cut about 500 calories per day. You have to keep track too, or you will ned up fudging the numbers. Write it down, use an app, whatever works for you, but keep a log to keep you honest.
This is that honesty with yourself thing again. You have to get into a frame of mine where you are able to look at your food, not fool yourself into thinking you are eating less than you are, and make a conscious decision to eat less & choose healthy foods.
I was able to drop 60lbs after my divorce. Keeping track and being honest forced me to make some decisions. For example, I have had to decide that I simply can not bring icecream home from the store. 1) I can't moderate it once its at home. and 2) one carton has 2500 calories in it, and I don't want to have to make that up somewhere else in my diet.
One last item for thought. Weightloss is mostly earned via diet. Cardio & strength is mostly earned at the gym. Start with the diet, and when you see some progress, add in some exercise.
I came on here looking for a support buddy to lose weight. I'm 30 and have gained 50 pounds in the last year. I REALLY need someone to talk to to keep my motivation going!
