1. When you are hungry, eat.
2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should. (this is the one that goes against what most people say about weight loss. People say to cut out fat, count calories, low carbs. This rule goes against all that, but if you read the book you will understand why.)
3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful
4. When you think you are full, stop eating. (This one will help me alot)
Just thought I would add this part in. The book is amazing and totally makes sense. Go out and get it. :-)
As a personal trainer my main duty is to bring my clients focus back to the task at hand.
Working out is 90% mental. You have to think about the muscle/muscle group you are working or it won't be as effective. People often injure themselves because they are not mindful of what they are doing. The mind tells the body what to do not the other way around. This really comes into play when you are pushing those last painful reps. Your body says STOP and you have to mentally say I can do 2 more.
Yes...you have to mindful of eating. Listen to your body when it says "I'm full" Have common sense about what you put in your body.
We don't need a diet to tell us what to eat.
If it comes in a package, it is probably not good. Learn to read food labels. Become informed about food and supplements.
This is a life long journey. There is no destination where we can say, "I don't need to do "Atkins, South Beach, Slim Fast etc."
And there is no quick way to do it. I believe in setting small goals so that you can experience successes along the way.
Such as losing a certain amount of inches in your stomach. Being able to fit in a pair of jeans. Replacing ice cream with a fat free sugar free kind.
I tell my clients not to go gung ho with diet and exercise to begin with. It is like trying to climb Everest without any experience. Once you start seeing changes you will naturally be attracted to heathier eating and dedicated to more exercise.
Wow...I didn't expect this to be so long.
I just think that the state of mind is SO important in our journey. Beating ourselves up over mistakes serves no purpose. Allow yourself to be human. Love to you all my friends.
