There are a million ways to lose weight. The Mayo Clinic Diet is as good as any other, maybe better than a lot, because the Mayo Clinic is one of the best health/medical places in the U.S. So if they are putting a weight loss plan out there, it will be a good one.
But there are lots of good plans and programs out there. It's important for you to look some of them over and pick one that you think will work best for you. Good luck with it.
Big hugs!

Perhaps you should start with smaller goals. Like cutting something out of your current "diet" and committing to walking for 15 minutes every day, or every other day. Often when we set our sights too far out, it's overwhelming. Some people just don't do well with "just do it"...I personally am that way...but a lot of folks aren't. So, i'd recommend setting a weekly goal. Then, when you achieve it each week, you'll look forward to setting your next week's goal and accomplishing it.
I usually recommend looking up a good diabetic diet. They are very balanced and require to eat smaller meals throughout the day and they are reasonable and realistic. You may not be the type of person that can go balls to the wall all at once. You may just have to take baby steps. In a situation like this one...slow and steady wins the race.
So, yes, it can be done. Yes, you can do it. And no...do not give up...you are worth the effort.
