As my profile states, I was just referred to a nephrologist based on the results of a 24-hr urine collection. I have my first dr appt scheduled for 08/03/10. There is a part of my that has already determined the worse case scenerio - dialysis and all that stuff, but the sane part of me tells me not to worry until the drs check me out.

I have been looking on different websites, but can't find anything about how kidney disease (if that's what's going on) would effect my everyday life.

Please share your experiences if you care to.

Also, I could not find a group here on DS for Kidney Disease of any kind. Please let me know if this is not the appropriate group for me and if there is a group perhaps more suited to my needs.

here are a couple of sites you may check out www.dailyhemo.org andwww.Health Boards.com and another, http://kidneyschool.org hope these help. I have had kidney disease for many yrs. and July 1st i had my left arm done(fistula) It is now ready for use, but the good Lord blessed me and my nephrologist did a lab and my numbers went down and i dont have to start dialysis yet! I am so happy, but i know that could change overnite, so just learn all you can. also the national kidney foundation is another good site.also Davita.com is good. Good luck and maybe we can support each other! i hope so

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I went to the nephrologist today. He looked at my labs and was like "so, what's the big deal?" He said my protein is sooo slight, it is almost normal and my creatinine clearance is so slight, it is almost normal also. He does want me to do another urine analysis is 2 wks, a kidney sonogram in 4 wks and see him again in 6 wks.

I guess my PCP was just concerned because I have high blood pressure and am borderline diabetic. But it put the fear of God in me, and I'm doing my best to get my weight down (I'm 224) and watch my glucose levels..
