Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
So more googling reveals pravastatin increase insulin sensitivity so I dump the crestor and my next visit I bring him papers on pravastatin and tell him I want that instead. He says no Cresstor will lower my cholesterol quicker.
I give up oh yeah 3.1 is a perfectly normal number for cholesterol in the general population I don't take any statin right now and probably never will.
I don't see that Dr. anymore.
Here is an article I read:
High Cholesterol - Cause
High cholesterol can be caused by:
What you eat. Eating too much saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol can cause high cholesterol. Saturated fat and cholesterol are in foods that come from animals, such as meats, whole milk, egg yolks, butter, and cheese. Trans fat is found in fried foods and packaged foods, such as cookies, crackers, and chips.
Your weight. Being overweight may increase triglycerides and decrease HDL (good cholesterol).
Your activity level. Lack of physical activity can lower your HDL.
Your age and gender. After you reach age 20, your cholesterol naturally begins to rise. In men, cholesterol generally levels off after age 50. In women, it stays fairly low until menopause. Then it rises to about the same level as in men.
Some diseases. Certain diseases may raise your risk of high cholesterol. These include hypothyroidism, chronic kidney disease, and other kidney problems.
Your family history. High cholesterol may run in your family. If family members have or had high cholesterol, you may also have it.
Cigarette smoking. Smoking can lower your HDL cholesterol.
Certain medicines. Some medicines can raise triglyceride levels and lower HDL (good) cholesterol levels. These medicines include thiazide diuretics, beta-blockers, estrogen, and corticosteroids.
I have high cholesterol myself...I've been told the doctor tells me I have what they call inherted type high cholesterol.
I also Antonylauria take crestrol. I have been on others over the last several years. i had problems with my body not liking these statins.
so for me Crestrol works....it does keep me more in line in my numbers.
But I'm not everyone and I think we are each our own body and what we can take or not. So I am not advcating anyone to take Crestor. Just what it has help me.
Good wishes

So BridgetsMom congratulations on the A1C, but do go ahead and take even a low dose of pravastatin or another cholesterol drug, it needs the help since the diabetes helps create the high cholesterol.
Many of us do take something, even I do and my cholesterol was not that high tho my LDL was.
