finally saw a podiatrist and did you know that having diabetes raises our risk to have corns and calluses? just another thing we must worry about lol. oh and yeah I need to stay away from buying shoes from Walmarts! all in all appointment went well

I already have feet problems.....my doctor told me I am the only person in his many years of practice that BEGGED him to cut my feet off and give me prosthetic ones! I did get past it and that problem was solved without amputation (thank God). Now I have to worry about corns and callouses....lol.

Great News mzizgayle! It's always good when the doctor says no problems. I didn't know that diabetes raised the risk of corns and calluses. That's good to know.
My endocrynologist is the one who told me to put lotion on my feet everyday. It does help.

Diabetes contributes to a multitude of 'other' issues. And oh yeah, the feet is one of them! And it's very important to keep your feet thoroughly clean, and dry.

I get a lot of swelling in my feet to. I wear special shoes, and they have a special soft form fitted insert. The shoes & inserts cost $300+. Thank god my insurance covers them! I'm allowed one new pair a year. Nope, no more Walmart or Payless shoes for me either, lol.

very good, yes the shoes can be expensive. We have a shoe store near us that has shoes that are diabetic friendly, made to let your toes move, etc. I went in and bought a pair and I thought the Walmart ones with an added insert from me were comfortable, but when they slipped these on I was impressed and they felt great LOL. and come to find out I was wearing wrong size...now to get a pair of tennis shoes to run around in...they actually have New Balance ones

I am going to a Diabetic Fair tomorrow and the nurse is going to speak on Foot Care. It is put on by the hospital and also the Dietician is going to speak. We get a free lunch, gift package and prizes too, so it's an enjoyable day.
