I curious to know who uses alcohol pads and who wash their hands? And which is better? And also what meter do you use and How do you keep track of your numbers? what level do you keep your lancet on
Me personally I wash my hands that what I was told, I use the One Touch ultra mini and I use the little booklet that came with my old meter to write my numbers in. My lancet is on 4 but that almost not working out for me.

Finger tests for me are like paper cuts
Alcohol will dry out your skin terribly, so I only use it before shots.
I have a small FAT NOTE Book where I write everything down, including BG test numbers, oral meds including alternatives, insulin shots - how much and where I inject. I also write down when the shot hurts or puddles under the skin.
MD's and my dietitian would rather I used a book, so I try to make out a spread sheet or use a logging program before appointments.
I have a ReliOn device (Walmart special)....my lance is set on 3.
I ran out of the booklets, so I put an App on my phone....it records everything. I love that it has a graph which is a better visual for myself.
I love it cuz it is so easy to carry with me to the doctors and it contains all the information my doctor asks for....very convenient :)
When my Ins company mailed the test supplies, they sent the alcohol prep pads. They now give an RX for the drug store, but we cannot use the on line ones. I get some of the extras by asking the meter company. They are very helpful sending test solution, batteries and even log books.
I do not get an RX for the alcohol pads, in fact, when a "nurse" showed me how to use the insulin pen, she never mentioned prep pads or purging the air out before injecting. I buy the pads. They can cost as little as $1.99 or over $5.00 for a box on 100.
I have bought extra supplies on line, as the Ins co. only approves 4 tests per day, and I test more often.
The extra meter I bought uses less expensive strips, about $20 for 100 instead of the $140 name brand at the drug store. I can even find my Freestyle strips on line for about $60 but the Ins co won't cover them.
Talk about being financially irresponsible.....

Actually I have in the past just got some gauze pads and a bottle of alcohol and did it that way.
