Prednisone-Induced Type 2

Meow...Hi,

I have Polymyositis, and my Type 2 is never below 140 due to the steroid.

Anybody else have this problem?

Prednisone can cause this issue, have you discussed with your doctor? Maybe he can raise your meds to help this

reply #1 is correct. Prednisone will definitely raise your blood sugar levels. I know because I have been put on Prednisone a couple of times for bronchitis, sinus infections, etc. It will go back down if they give you a dose pack, such as 6 the first day, 5 the second day, etc. Ask yuor doctor if there is an alternative. Any steroid will raise your sugars though. Hope this helps.

Thanks, friends, for the advice. Just saw my doc today. She recommended insulin in a pen until I am able to get off the steroid.

I'm going to do lots of research. I see my doc again on Wed to discuss the right type.

I may be on Prednisone for the rest of my life. Poly can be very cruel and flares when it wants.

Have either of you, or any one, used a pen?
