This is just a vent of sort. I have had an asthma flareup recently and am currently on prednisone for a few weeks.
I have been fortunate so far with my diabetes and have been able to control my BS levels with diet alone. However each time I have been put on pred my BS spikes significantly. Each time I have finsihed with the pred my BS drops back down to my normal. However I must admit that each time I fear that it won't.I guess I'll have to ride it out and then we'll see. Oh well, just 8 more days on the prednisone.

i'm asthmatic,too. and pred spikes my BS also....maybe get some rapid acting insulin temporarily? trish

Prednisone screwes up practically everyhting. Would upping your exercise lower your readings safely, or is that not a good idea considering your other conditions?

For me to get active right now would be a mistake. I have had days where I have tried and wound up exacerbating the asthma because I'm still not up to snuff. I have learned the hard way that I just have to ride it out otherwise the situation jut gets worse.
It just takes a bit longer nowadays.

Tom,
I understand what you mean about the predisone! I also have asthma and ended up in the hospital in Jan. with an asthma attack. I was put on predisone for 6 weeks and had to really watch my sugar. I am on insulin, but my numbers would go up to 400. Been off for about 3 weeks and my numbers are almost down to managable. I also have MS so the diabetes and MS fight each other.

i got novologs disposables pens today! well-when the pharmacy gets them tues.....normally,lantus and actoplus met are good enough-but not with the pred!i'll be on sliding scale just while i'm on pred....trish

I have rhuematoid arthritis and my rhuemy kept putting me on predisone for flares. I would then end up having to see my endocrinologist because my sugar levels were so high. By the time a month of predisone was given to me by rhuemy my b/s levels were spiking to 450 to 600. This would happen every time I would have a flare up with RA. I finally told my rhuemy that I would no longer take predisone, and she started working on finding something else to put me on along with the mtx, and remicade. She found the magic bullet when she put me on the kind of sulfa drug. It put me in remission. I found out through this experience, that sometimes dr.'s will take the easiest route for them, and to speak up and say no when you need to. My rhuemy just was not that concerned about my diabeties. I guess she was more interested in the RA.,but my endocrinologist was having fits. I refuse to ever take predisone again.
