Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Salads with grilled chicken, croutons, and a diet soda, tea, or water are usually super filling and keep me on track. I have to admit, I occasionally feel like I am a rabbit some days, but dropping 10 lbs in the last month alone and feeling great makes it all worth it. I will even bring my own splenda for coffee or tea. McDonalds has even been kind enough to offer diabetic meal suggestions right on their website, with the carb points figured out for you. http://www.mcdonalds.com/content/dam/McDonalds/Documents/McDonalds_SimpleSteps_Diabetes.pdf
Subway is one of my favorites, and although they do not have a national compaign yet ( I did send them a pretty long e-mail ) some of their restaurants in the Kansas area started a Diabetic Friendly Campaign called Scoopit. The would "scoop" most of the bread out of the sub leaving a crust shell to fill with their sandwiches and fixins', plus sugar free beverage options. I now request scooped subs at our local Subway and have had great blood sugar, even after a 12 inch sub. Again, you need to watch dressing and sandwhich choices to further eliminate carbs. http://www.subwayscoopit.com/testimonials.html
You may have to do some pre-planning, but it is possible to eat out, even at fast food joints, and still stay on track with limiting your carb intake. Again, it is all about educating yourself, and putting in a little legwork. Once you do that, it will become second nature. It is just a little bit harder for us old dogs to learn.
They tried to change the way to do the salads once, which totally was stupid lol..but I wrote an email complaining, told them not a single restaurant I know of makes a salad as dumb as they tried and sure enough I walked into our favorite subway, the manager gave me a high 5 and said, he didnt know what I said, but knew it was me (since i had a hissy fit over the way they did mine and said I was complaining to headquarter) and salads are now made the way the customer wants ROFL
Ray a lot of times I order a small steak and the restaurant's fresh steam vegetables.
Most of the time they will let me have a side salad in place of the baked potato with a side of olive oil for the salad dressing or just extra steam vegetables.
There are many things that U can order. I go to the web sites of the resturants and look up their nutritional values on their menus.
I know how hard it is to learn the new way of eating we have to learn when we are handed this new curve in our Journey of Life here on earth.
It will take a while but you will learn what works best for U.
Todd I went to the Subway site that you provided.
The nutrition information show a lot of carbs for the Subway Sandwiches.
Is the Carbs of the Sandwich before the bread is scoopit out or afterwards?
Do u do the scooping or do the people that are making your sandwich do the scooping?
Never though of scooping the bread out! LOL Sometimes I wonder about me. LOL
I have taken the top half of the bread off before; and if the sandwich has large leaves of lettuce I threw away the bread and used the lettuce leaves like u use the bread.
I have not eaten there in ages. The water sounds great.
Thanks for the Info
