Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Hi...
I use the GE Lancet Pen on my thumb, and the One Touch Ultra 2 Monitor.
Purr,
=^.,.^=
Ther Lancing device can be adjusted on most any device to suit your comfort. It's more of where you test, some folks test in different areas.
I use the side of my fingers, You just have to try different areas to find your own comfort zone.
When I googled painless glucose monitors, Accuchek Aviva comes up, with the Multi clix device. As you said the lancet is the critical part it seems. But my pharmacy says they dont' sell many of that one. I don't know why.
I have heard of the one touch also.
All I know is the ones they use in the hospital really hurt!!
Thx!
I also can not stand needles, I rarely got sick growing up, so didn't have many shots, even when I had surgeries I would wake up and say no shots ROFL...it took me 15 minutes to get my first successful blood test but now it is a piece of cake and since I tend to test between the first knuckle and nail towards the sides a bit I don't feel it, I dont do the little finger or thumb.
I know when they took my blood sugar while I was in the hospital, it really hurt!! But then again, I'm a big chicken who hates needles...
but then the strips and lancets cost quite a bit which my insurance won't pay for...
Thx for the tip though. I might just do it to compare. Do they include so many strips and lancets in the initial pkg?
Anyone know what went wrong with these two meters this morning? The strips were brand new.
It took me stabbing myself several times and several strips the first couple of times.
I bought the Walmart brand meter (ReliOn). It cost about 16 dollars and the strips (ReliOn Prime) are 9 dollars for 50 strips.....much more affordable since it is out of pocket expenses.
My doctor gave me a freestyle meter.....but the strips cost something like 40 dollars for 50 strips. It's crazy and so I bought what I could afford. So far, it works great for me.
I'm not fond of stabbing myself a few times a day, I still cringe every time...lol.
I called Abbott and they helped me to test the meters with the control soln. They both checked out ok.
If you have not done it yet, make the lifestyle changes that can lower your a1c after 3 months. Do this for 3 months, buy an accucheck a1c self test and check it.
Stay with those new lifestyle changes this will help to keep a good a1c, and over time, could remove the pre-diabetic a1c result.
Since you are pre-diabetic, not diabetic, lifestyle changes are the least painful option, with one needle, after 3 months, for the a1c test.
Welcome, and I hope this helps.
