Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Maybe you could write down the injection routine and put it in the kitchen? Or put post it notes to remind you to eat, or a reminder on your mobile phone?
Insulin can take a while to work depending on which insulin you are taking. Be careful with increasing the dose, you don't want to go hypo. I would increase it by a few units then wait at least 24 hours before making any other change. Like Goldilox says, it is easier if you have a repetitive routine so you can tell what effect the insulin is having. Keep in contact with your doctor and check blood sugar regularly. Don't be hard on yourself, it is a difficult thing we are doing. Take things slowly. One thing that helps is if you have software with your blood sugar meter and can see your results on the computer.
Thx for the ideas, Lizzie. I actually do have the pens and love them. Bui it's my non-diabetes medications that I'm now forgetting. I always remembered them before because I took them when I took my oral diabetes meds, which I don't take anymore. And of course there's remembering to eat. Luckily I only inject twice a day and I only forget at dinnertime. I think maybe I'd better start fixing the food first, then injecting; not ideal, but when I finally get down lower it'll be better than forgetting and waiting too long between injection & food. Btw, I hadn't thought about downloading the software for my meter; I'll have to look into that.
It sure is an adventure!
