I looked this up after the question came up recently, there is a thread named 'Canadian vs American" Someone here said that we can set these in either measurement, and that you can call the manufacturing company with any questions. the conversion rate is,,

if you search online for the meter brand, a lot of times you can find the manual to set it up.. did you get one when you purchased it? But that function to switch should be in the setups. If you can't find it let us know the brand and maybe some of us could have the manual to help you

It's easy to call the manufacturer too. I had a lot of questions about batteries, memory recording. If it's a simple meter it's simpler. I got one that I could keep a log of levels, averages, and other factors, backlight, etc.

hehe I used to keep a detailed log when I first got diagnosed and for about a year, so to see when I spiked and why. I also got a warranty for the meter, which came in handy as I had to replace it later.

It did come with a manual and that part, says factory set, cannot be changed by user. :(

Had a big scare this morning, used both the old meter and the new and read the new one as 10 and almost died, but in reality it said 101. I was trying to compare, to make sure the new one agreed with the old. That's what happens when you aren't completely awake I guess.

If you have two meters, you will not get the same readings with both, every meter is different, what you do want tho, is to have them in the same range tho, not too much of a difference

Gayle it was the new meter that's in mg/dl instead of the mmol, I just didn't see the 1, read 10 instead of 101.

Are you able to return that meter to E-bay? A few months ago, Roche (manufacturers of Accu-chek) and the manufacturers of One touch were giving away free meters. Many manufacturers give away free meters, because they profit from your use of their strips. They are also able to issue coupon / discount cards to assist with purchasing the strips. I got a meter for my Dad from the US, that he is able to use in South Africa, which also uses mg/dl from Accu-check a few years ago.

The meter was free with the purchase of 200 strips, but that's ok, I'll keep it, since I've already opened it. Not a big deal to do the conversion.

hehe see? the companies often give free meters with a few strips to begin with, and then you have to keep buying the same kind of strips after that and that's where they make their money.
