Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Good luck
Ray, I have no doubt that if you had a dietician in your pocket who could scrutinize everything you put in your mouth, yup they will get you under control. Look, there are people on this board who have done wonderfully! They have lost a swack of weight, they have gotten into exercising to the point where they have lost weight and been able to get off the drugs. I am sure that this book has this as the underlying message, control your portions, eat these foods, don't eat these foods, exercise and lose weight. The reality is, is the book doing anything different than what proper eating and exercising will give you? Probably not. I am also saddened by the fact that a professional like this doctor is allowing that kind of title on the book. Tell you what though, ask the publisher if your diabetes is not cured in 30 days will they refund you the cost of the book?
Ray, my friend, you may be looking for recipes to make your food more interesting and you know what? There are a lot of us who are looking for that. I go to dlife.com where they have some really great recipes. Todd shared some great recipes and there are others who are doing that. Carb counting has been doing nicely for me, I am now down 22 lbs and i am feeling a lot better. I just think that you can get the same by being more careful about what you eat and save the $30 on the book.
Tell you what, I will post what I have been eating with the carb count and if there is something that you want the recipe for, just tell me, deal?

Then in 2009, I think I had a suspicion that my foot was in real trouble, but even then I was ignoring it! If I could go back there, I would kick myself in the butt! That day that I went to the hospital still haunts my dreams, when they told me that they might have to take the whole foot, or even the leg, I got incredibly frightened.
I don't tell many people about this part Ray, the day after my surgery, I was talking to the social worker at the hospital and she asked how many steps there were for me to get into my apartment. I told her 11 steps, she told me that before I would be allowed to go home that I would have to be able to climb 11 steps without assistance. About 5 minutes after she left, I went to the Occupational room, the therapist was wonderful and she tried to send me away saying that I was not strong enough yet. But me and my stubborn butt refused to listen. They had a small staircase, 4 steps. The rest of that afternoon, I tried to climb those 4 steps and I really could not do it. I tried for the rest of that afternoon and was not able to do it, to get down the stairs I had to sit on the stairs and slide down on my bum. At one point, I just sat down and literally cried my heart out, I must have cried for almost an hour there. The therapist sent in someone from psychiatry to talk to me and I still remember telling her that I was useless. My boss from work at the time was completely ignoring my calls and when I finally did speak to him he actually had the nerve to say that I got the gangrene in my foot because I was fat and lazy and I probably did not live a clean life. They actually put me on suicide watch for the next few days. I know this sounds completely irrational but that is when I decided to become proactive and help others who were facing just what I went through. That is why I decided to write PCMDR. I know that I must b ore everyone with my plugs of PCMDR but I really want to help others going through what I went through.
The people here have all become good friends. I admire so many people here when they lose the weight or get started exercising more, but the really big thing for me is that they join this board and they genuinely want to help others. Much like yourself Ray. I still recall some of your earlier questions and I bet if you took a bit of time and read through them, you would be amazed at how you have progressed. You have made me feel good by how well you have done, and I love that I have been a small part of it. You have earned my admiration and my love, Ray. Like so many others here. I am so sorry that I may bore you folks with stuff about my website, but I do it because I care! BTW, the site address is http://pcmdr.ca and it is free for people to join. Yes, we are just starting but we will get there and I have a lot of inspiration from this site.
Sorry if I got so long winded, but it does help me to let people know how it felt, just because I was too damned stubborn to accept my diabetes!
Take care my friend and don't forget the people here, you have done really well and let's help the new kids get a better handle on their disease.
