Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Hello,
My name is Diana and I am 45 years old, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1999 although I believe I had diabetes during my third pregnancy with my son. I have never taken this diagnosis serious and have played with my health, first I don't test regularly and the dr had me on oral medications and about 10 years ago I began to take insulin on and off, when I say on and off its because I don't stick with it like I said I don't test regularly and I don't take insulin regularly. My numbers all always off the roof like in the high 200's and 300's. I have never had an A1C lower than 8.9. Right now my A1C is 10.4. I am addicted to carbs and sweets especially chocolate. I just don't know when I will wake up and take this seriously. I need some serious help and support. I need to be held accountable for my food intake and my medications. I've been having anxiety and depression lately because I know that I will die young due to this disease and it freaks me out, but not enough to get right with my diet and meds. I skip doctors appointments because I get the same lecture all the time......How can I change my ways? I am trying to find out if I still have a chance to get better, or did I do so much damage to my body that I can't turn back? I have 3 children and 2 grandchildren and I feel like I have failed them by not taking control of my disease. Can anyone relate to this? Any feedback would be appreciated...
Diana

There is still hope. You have to take the insulin the doctor has you on the way your supposed to.
You can do what I do. Buy individual cups of ice cream, individual packets of cookies, snack cakes and small individual chocolate candy. That way you are less likely to binge on carbs. I even found individual microwave cups of mash potatoes. Also, try another doctor, maybe. And maybe counseling also.
Now I am on both long and short acting insulin and metformin. I'm also in the process of looking for a new endo, it seems all of them so far (4) hate diabetics!!! Not very supportive!! I've also been in and out of diabetes education. I KNOW what i'm supposed to do, I just don't do it.
So here I am, starting to pay attention again. For the past week I have researched apps for my phone to help me in this process. I have found 2 that I use together that makes this "carb counting" and calculations a little easier; "Lose it" and "Easy Dose" Lose it is usually for weight loss (which I also need, but one thing at a time). Loose it will give you the total carbs in a meal, then Easy dose will give you the amount of insulin to inject for that meal.
I've only been doing this for a week, but my numbers are coming down. My fasting and before meals were about 170 to 225 and now they are closer to 100 and 130 with a few lows in there too. Yes, I still binge with chocolate/muffins/frozen yogurt... but I can get back on the measuring and injecting faster now.
I hope this helps! Good luck.
