Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
My main goal is to have decent control with no meds, which means strict carb control. Some people would rather take the meds and have a little more freedom about what they eat. Some don't even have the option of trying to cope without the meds.
So I say you should start with the goal and then figure out the best way to get yourself there.
I was so glad to hear you are trying to do the no meds thing! I am trying the same thing, and most people have expressed a lot of disapproval. It is good to know someone else is doing this too. How long have you been doing this? Have you reached your goal?
I didn't eat a potato for over a year, but one day decided to try 1/2 of a baked potato and I did fine with it.
So read labels, watch your total carb count (that is our problem, not just "sugar") portion controls and talk to us, ask all the questions you have. We all react differently to diabetes, what may work for one, may not for another.
Good luck!
