Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Diagnose in October, A1C was 7.8, decided to take control and eat healthier and exercise. I'm please to say that I have drop 30 pounds, and my A1C as of 3/4/2015 is 6.2. And I feel so much better, we are leaving Friday the 13th for a cruise in the Western Caribbean and I plan to eat just as healthy on the cruise as I have been daily, I've learned its all about choices. Good luck to everyone.

That is really good to know! I hope you have a great time during the cruise. Of course, don't forget your daily regimen so that you won't worry about your health while on vacation, or even after. Just like a friend of mine who has diabetes, she exercises and watches her diet. So far, she's doing great and her life is not really that much affected with the disease. I think it's been five years since she was diagnosed. Occasionally, she sees her doctor for her medication or check-up. But other than that, she's doing great as well as you.

Hi! I am 59 and had a heart attack back in Oct. Part of the reason was not having control of my diabetes. At that time my A1c was 11.7! Since then I have lost 30 lbs, with a goal of at least 50, have been eating very healthy, and now exercising. I bought a treadmill and had it delivered the day after I finished cardiac rehab in January. I am a reformed couch potato. My A1c last week was down to 6.4!! My Dr couldn't be more thrilled! Of course I' m ecstatic!! I'm on metformin and januvia and hoping to be able to come off at least the januvia eventually.

I love cruising. And I have just over 200 day on board. As a Type II I have been somewhat success full in diet control on board and I lose weight each trip I take. Here is what I do: I don't take the elevator, I walk the steps. I go to sit down meals with waiters. I avoid the buffets. Watching portions is critical. No seconds. No juice. No ice cream or desert. And I try to get to the gym on sea days and walk the deck loop daily. I'm not perfect, far from it, but still I lose weight each trip and that keeps the A1c down.
