Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

However, I am sensitive to white flour, white potatoes, white rice, and pasta.....they make me ill and they spike my blood sugar and hold it high....so I avoid it and make substitutions.
I am not a sweet eater by nature, but I do enjoy a sweet once in awhile......so I usually plan it into my meal or snack (I count carbs) or I wait a few hours after a meal and then eat a small sweet (2 small cookies).
I love the atkins bars and their version of M&M's becuz they have the carbs counted out already and they taste like the real deal :)
Keep in mind portion size and count the carbs (snacks are usually between 15-18.....sometimes I do 20 and a meal is between 30-45ish).
My daughter is getting married in September and I anticipate a very small piece of wedding cake......so I'm planning now...lol.
I just saw my doctor today and I'm doing very well for a newbie (7 months into diagnosis). So I must be doing something right....that includes eating real sugar.......in smaller quantities.
Carbs are sugars, they are complex sugars and the other is simple sugars which is included in the carbs. Check the label of a food item and you will see the "sugar" listed under the carbs. Of course you do have to watch, a regular soda has almost 60 carbs LOL...
as long as you watch you are doing fine
