sounds like you caught a bug! I would expect an allergic reaction to be hives, rash etc.

Liz - can you put an emergency call into your physician? There should always be someone on call. Also, have you taken your blood glucose readings? Are they above 300? We're not doctors on this site, and if you feel you have a medical emergency, certainly go to Urgent Care. But if you're not sure, call your doctor right away. That's why we pay them the big bucks, so they can answer questions like this one so you're not so nervous.

My numbers were all over the place on Wednesday, and I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. Found out I have a slight sinus thing going on. Persons with diabetes are going to react to any sort of bug differently - our numbers get wonky, and we might feel differently than we did before. Obviously something's going on, so call you MD and find out.

I took my B/S after I posted here and it was 185. High but not 300 or over.
MegsD, yes, a rash and hives are considered to be an allergic reaction but according to a couple of sites I checked so to are fever, feeling cold and muscle aches. If my fever goes up again tomorrow and I start to feel as bad as I did earlier I'll call the doctor.

you should go to the doctor. When you have diabetes it takes you longer to heal or recover from an illness/injury. I am on my 2nd week of fighting a respiratory infection and I hate being sick...your symptoms sound like mine somewhat...but yes don't put off, it is better to be safe than sorry

Hi all. I've been to the doctor. She says it sounds like the classic flu. She said to spend today in bed, eat what I feel like eating as long as it stays within diabetic guidelines, she said to test my B/S every 4 hours as feeling bad will make it hard to tell whether I'm up or down. She said to take ibuprofen every 4 hours but my kidneys are already compromised from a kidney disease so I'll take Tylenol.
I'm to call my regular doctor on Monday.

very good, diseases like the flu or what I am dealing with can just play havoc with you. I don't think I have had a decent night's sleep or several hours without going into a coughing fit

I hope that you got some help. the first thing is always to check your blood glucose as soon as you start to feel weird because you could be up or down. If you are down you need some fast acting sugar such as jucie a regualr soda or candy. You don't want to take a chance of going into a coma.
