Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
We all go thru these moments, even after 16 years, I still have small moments but I do it for myself and for the family.
Get with your doctor, ask all questions, ask if you can control with diet and exercise or maybe oral drugs. learn all you can, knowledge is power, it is not the end of your life, but just a new beginning to a new way of life.
Start with your diet, no fried (the fat holds numbers higher, longer) stay away from white breads, pasta, rice and potatoes (the starch messes with numbers) watch portion control, watch your carb count per day...most of us do fine with 30-45 carbs per meal. Use dreamfields pasta if you must have pasta, but of course portion sizes. Exercise can bring down the numbers tho be careful when you are high as in the 200s or more, this can lead to sudden drop in numbers which you don't want.
It won't happen over night, but you recognize you need help and support and you have it here, It is ok to be scared and angry, but this disease can be controlled and now direct that anger into something heathy as gaining control of the diabetes, not allowing the diabetes to control you
We can learn together!
mzizgalye is so correct in everthing she has said. Everyone of us went through that moment of surprise. It's just another part of life we have to accept.
There is a website I go to that is really good with education, support, recipes and you can ask questions. It's www.dlife.com. They also put out a show on cable (30 minutes) I believe it is on sunday early evening like around 6 p.m.
Best wishes....
Best,
Diana
I managed to get my after meal numbers down below 200 over the weekend and today. My numbers were up over 300 for my morning fasting both Sat and Sun. and 209 this morning. Don't know why they're up first thing like that.
I saw my doctor today. He increased the Victoza to 1.2 once a day, ordered labs, and gave me info on some Diabetes classes. There will be a dietician at these classes. I'm to go back in 3 weeks for a follow up.
And remember, stress raises your numbers. Right now you're very stressed with the diagnosis, which is a catch 22 in and of itself. As you live with it for a while, the stress part of it eases and the hard work begins. When you relax a bit, your numbers may come down some.
God bless y'all. Will write later.
I would be happy to walk this thru with you. I'm also about 50 and in the medical field (like we should all know better). Friend me back. the whole group is here for you and no question is too small.
I'm so disappointed. My insurance company won't pay for the Victoza my doctor prescribed, and have said I must try Metformin first. If that does not work or the side effects are too bad then my doctor can try for the Victoza again. I have heard such bad things about Metformin. The Victoza was wonderful AND even controlled my appetite. I'm hoping I"m one of the ones that can take the Metformin with no problems.
It might take time to find the right combination of meds, diet and exercise, but it'll happen.
