Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Insurances can be odd at times lol. But I can see some of their reasoning since being diabetic has many complications and with weight in control, it does help with the numbers, etc. Sounds like you got it in control as far as diet, (eating healthy) and exercise. Dont' forget to watch portion controls and carbs since they are our enemies.
Don't worry we all tend to go off the wagon at times, in fact even my doctor doesn't have a problem if "once in a while" I eat something I should not, as long as it is not a habit....wonder what she would think about this homemade, 2 layer loaded with real cream cheese icing, but hey it is just 1/2 portion, but so good ROFL
And for fonzy on the wt loss surgery. RNY is a true bypass surgery. There are others, the lap band (which i hear many surgeons are slowing phasing out as results for most are not as good) and the sleeve,
I actually ended up here on daily strength on the weight loss surgery thread. If you are contemplating surgery, i'd suggest 3 things:
1> Make sure your insurance would pay for it if you decide to, unless of course $$ is not an issue. It costs around 20 or 30 K.
2> See if your local hospital/bariatic center has one of the free info sessions. That proved informative for me.
3> Pop over and poke around on the weight loss thread on this site and see what people are saying. That too has proved very helpful.
Best of health to all!
I don't think I really ever answered your question :)
Here is a link that has a pdf link on RNY surgery. entire site is helpful. It is peace health, sacred heart medical center where I will have mine done, provided I am able to jump all the hoops! So of course it would most likely be a different place for you, but none the less, the info is good :)
