Has anyone had experience with diabetic shoes? My podiatrist has prescribed them for me.

No, but I am interested as I am having trouble with pain in my feet after I have been wearing most of the shoes I do have and walking around the stores in them (especially).

Yes, I have been wearing diabetic shoes for 3-4 years now. They feel really good. I go to a medical supply store and they give me four inserts with my order. I usually get them in about 2 weeks. My health insurance pays most of the cost.

Survivable, I am curious about where you get your shoes... I work in a hospital as a nursing assistant and am on my feel almost the entire shift. I would like to get a good pair of diabetic shoes but wasn't aware that you could actually get shoes specifically for diabetes... I know you can get shoes that are recommended for people with diabetes but thats somewhat different I think. I have extended health care benefits and it would be covered under this benefit... I think I might need to go and see what the situation is here. As there is not insurance for that sort of thing I will have to be very careful to get the right shoes as I think they are very expensive here. As soon as the silly season is over I will go and see what I can find at the rehab section of the hospital, Thanks for the thought.

I've found some great shoes at FootSmart.com They may be a bit pricey... Since insurance wont cover this for me; I buy what is comfy and will last a long time. I pay about $40-60 for one pair. There are other places on the internet that also sell shoes that will work for our feet:) Just do a little search and see what you can find.

In England the best supplier (in my opinion) is Cosyfeet..they are expensive but they last and you dont have to pay VAT....

Regarding Cosyfeet in the UK. They only supply shoes for wide wide feet. I have several pairs of Crocs and they are really supportive, comfortable, and my feet do not slip or slide around in them.
