Thanks for your response and website. So, you are saying it's not just diabetes that causes these? Do you do any treatment for them? Are there any restrictions to you since you have them? Is flying and exercising ok to do?

I'm also on daily low dose aspirin. I wondered if I should continue that?

Just do what you are doing they will go away and you may see them again. Now the aspirin I can't tell you, ask your Doc about that.

I do not take aspirin at all. I can only take Tylenol. I have other health problems

Let your Doc worry about them I think you will be OK.

This looks not like a floater but rather like a black splotch that moves when I move the eye, but not like a floater.

I thought diabetes was effecting my eyes and discussed this with my primary doctor. I told her I was getting like a black wall in my left eye that lasted up to about 10 minutes and thought perhaps I was getting attacked by diabetes in the eyes. After the exam and a thousand questions, she came to the conclusion that I was having "optical migraines" and not to worry. I promptly went to my eye doctor who confirmed my primary doctors diagnosis. That was last year.
About a month ago I was having shooting pains in my left eye that only lasts a few seconds...again, I went to my doctors....a new symptom of the eye migraines. This time she prescribed a anti inflammatory which ended up helping a pinched nerve in my neck, but it took about a week to help the eye migraines.
This pain and black wall only happen periodically, but can be quite bothersome and at first alarming.
Pain is not always accompanied with an eye migraine....it's more that black wall or blindness that is a mystery.
If you are having an eye migraine (optical migraine is the technical term), there is no worries about becoming blind.

Talk with your ophthalmologist to get further information on this, as others said it can happen to people without diabetes, my mother had floaters, some larger than others and she didn't have diabetes. If yours is not moving around (like when you blink you can see them "float:) then you need to keep watch

Yea, mine don' t float. IT's something on the retina itself.

make sure they keep an eye on this and ask what can be done to prevent further growth etc

I have another appt with the opthalmogist in 3 mos to see if it's worse or better.

Ms. Blank, my dtr gets ocular migraines and she says she sees all kinds of colors in her vision. They come and go and last all day long. Yours sound so different.
