Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Please let us know more about you, I think that you would be kind of neat to get to know :)
Kindest regards,
lary
I realize at your age and the need to watch the diet and meds it is a change, but it really is for the better, some people have diabetes and never know it..until it is to late.
To answer your question..it depends on how long you went diagnosed..what did you Doctor say, what is your A1C? Do you have any internal damage? it could be it just happened to ya. Hang in there I am 15 years older than you...LOL
Go look in the mirror and tell yourself I will do this for my self and for family....you will be ok, maybe you don't think so now but trust me, you still have plenty to live for and you can get this back into control.
I am also in my mid 60's and even tho I have had diabetes for 16 years, I am now finding myself developing other life challenges which I thought I would never do, but I face them head one, I do the controlling not the diseases, besides they won't pay rent to rent my mind lol....Hang in there dear, we are hear for you, you are not alone

I live alone, I was working for the government until a few months ago. I lost my job because of budget cuts and who wants to hire an overweight amputee? I am a degreed engineer and I feel useless, so I have poured my efforts into developing my website http://pcmdr.ca I am really proud of it and I know that eventually it will catch on. Newroads, God would not put someone as special as you are on this earth without a good reason. Besides, as I keep telling people, you have now joined the really kewl kids so you have to stick around for us to get to know you a bit better, deal?
HUGS.

I am in my 60s and live alone. I was diagnosed in 1989 after an acute bout of pancreatitis. I am on insulin and have recenlty lost 100 pounds (my apologies to all who have read this before) on Weight Wathcers. I lved with my mom for 46 years until she passed away and still miss her and think of her daily. She was also diabetic and had complications so needed me to be there with her. While she was not my spouse I can empathize with you.
It sounds to me like you may be depressed. Depression is one side effect of diabetes so you may want to speak to your doctor about that. Dying of omplications ifrom diabetes is no way to go.
I hope you will take the advice of the others and I will add that I agree with them. I know you will never forget your husband, but you need to ask yourself, "Is this the life he would have wanted for me? Would he have wanted me to sit around waiting to die?" When you are feeling sad try going out for a walk if you are able. Walkng is good for you, exellent exercise and gets the endorphins running in your system, which makes you feel better. I'm not able to walk so I do water fitness classes at the local Y and there are many people in the class who are thier 70s and 80s.
I hope that you continue to post here. We will all be here for you.
Take care.
It's one day at a time. We get up today, we thank God for the chance to be here for this day, and we do what we can to make it the best day it can be. And we learn, and grow, and are a different person when we get up tomorrow. I'm very glad you've found this group. Talk with us and keep coming back.
Good folk - all of them, and now you're a part of that group of good folk. Welcome.
