That is true. Likewise different hands different readings.

My nurse always says, the middle finger gives the most accruate reading. I say, how do you know?

I have never heard that about the middle finger...

Fingers and/or meters have nothing to do with accurate readings. If you take your BS once a minute you will get different results because sugar various in the cells on a second to second basis.

I have also read you should wash the area before taking reading as just touching some substances can have the same effect of sugar eating an apple or orange and getting some juice on skin can alter the readings.
Also do you think you can guess your readings before looking at the meter from the way you feel

if I am high I know the tingling in the toes and slight blurred vision
and dry mouth are indicators of a high reading

I take metformin at night but still my blood glucose is always highest in the morning before I get out of bed

I also take metformin with dinner and yes my morning numbers are higher, just no getting away from the dawn effect..the liver and pancreas have a party and don't invite us...

I was baking cupcakes once and putting on iceing and remembered to test, but forgot about the cupcakes being on my fingers, talk about a total freak out when I got that number ROFL

washing hands with soap and water removes any grease which can prevent forming a hanging drop, also washing removes sugar which will mix with the drop of blood and give a false reading, if for example you were eating some cake with icing

I agree with arlineH...I'm a nursing student and it's true that our BS levels will vary even a few seconds later. It's the body's natural response to anything that is not the way it should be......homeostasis...the cells try to maintain the environment of our cells so it's not surprising that the readings vary like they do....I had to ask that question in class LOL

I have had that happen before. It's not so bad if you remember to wash and recheck. Sorta sucks if you treat first and ask questions later.
