Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
My feet were swollen. numbness in extremities ....
Lessee --- tel the doctor!!!
Did you maybe eat something with a lot of salt since your feet were swollen? Maybe the way you say at the computer? Mine do that sometimes after a few hours on here. Now I sit on a pillow so the circulation isn't cut off.
I know you know this but Metformin won't keep your sugars down if you eat to many carbs. You have to work at it all the time and sometimes our bodies just say Too Bad your sugars are going uptoday no matter what.
Stress yes, but 105 is great. Carbs more then hidden sugars or both will raise.
I know once you see a high number you can start to get all anxious but that won't do you any good either. Not sure if you read a post I made but, I poked one finger and got a high number - and was like, "what the heck, no way!", and then poked another finger and tested again and it was more then a 20 point difference and in the target range. So go figure. Sunnierain also told me about the possibility of going low, which I knew nothing about! So as she described, I had one of those days - doctor's appt., shopping, etc. and all I had was a protein bar for lunch. Two hours after eating that, my BS was 67! Again I said, "what the heck, no way!", and rechecked on another finger and it was 98 - which is much better.
The highest I have been since "normalizing" my BS is 190 I think, and that was after eating oatmeal of all things. Haven't eaten it since. Yesterday I had an egg white with low fat cheese and 2 slices of turkey bacon on 2 whole grain waffles.... yummy! Two hours later, my BS was 116. New food for me - so I rechecked after 3 hours and it was 109. Go figure.
Also, just a quick note from a long time anxiety filled person - anxiety could also have you feeling numbness in your extremities. I have been to the ER many times thinking the worst and the culprit was anxiety/panic. My feet swelled up yesterday too. The high temperatures and exercising - plus sodium does it for me.
So, I hope your readings were good yesterday and you are feeling better today! Stay positive!
I mean -- I have a fever and a cough right at the start of summer!
No wonder I was all over the place yesterday.
This morning my fasting BG was 97.
* shrug *
BTW, oatmeal is great if it is NOT instant. I get steel cut oats or rough cut oats. The kind my grandmother made -- takes longer, but it is a great way to get breakfast that fills me up and does not send my BG up.
And, eating them plain is quite tasty.
:-)
I am sorry to hear that you are sick. Your fasting blood sugar is awesome! I have only had 3 morning BS's under 100 since being diagnosed a month ago, and I have been well. Did you really up your meds? Is it temporary - while sick? I hope you feel better real soon and keep us posted on how you are doing!
Of course I will check with the doc, but I strongly suspect that this fever and cough played havoc with my sugars.
Mac
How do you cook a serving of steel cut oats. I see in in bulk at the store. And no directions for cooking. I would love to try it.
I eat the 5 min oatmeal just about every day 1/2 cup . No problem, just tired of it.
I am on metformin. No problems my readings are within the normal range.
I use about 4 parts water to one part oats. Bring the water to a boil, add in oats and lower temperature. Keep stirring, or they will burn. It takes at least 20 minutes, depending on the amount.
I sometimes use a double boiler and let them cook for a few hours until they are very creamy.
I live alone and have a hard time getting down 1/2 cup instant oats to 1 cup of water with 1% milk. I don't eat a lot.
Don't have a double boiler. And have an electric stove. Seems that I would have to stir them for 20 mins.
