I've been on metformin for a very long time and was wondering has anyone else been on it for a long time and suffered stomach and bowl problems like bleeding and such

no bleeding but it can give me trots....now I take the ER form of metformin and less troubles with pooping my pants.....

No bleeding. When I first started taking it I had diarrhea a lot. But after the first six months or year I've been fine. Go to doctor. Bleeding might be from something else.

Hi, I have just been diagnosed with type 2. The first medicine my Doctor gave me was Metformin. I'm 58 yrs old. It gave me diarrhea the first day and there after. I couldn't take it. Since it's only been a month I have no idea what I'm in for. He gave me a med called Glipizide, which I don't know if it's suppose to replace the Metformin or what. Anyway the diarrhea stopped. He says I will probably be going on Insulin. I guess at this point he is just experimenting with what might help. I'm scared out of my mind and have a lot of reading to do as well as reading posts.

Ask your doctor about 2 meds that I take 1 is called Janumet I take it because I couldn't take metformin it does the same thing but it is gentler on your stomach and I take Actos or Pioglitizone HCL it helps the insulin in your body work better and it helps your diabetic meds work better to. my Endocrinologist has had me on it for a while.
