Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
With alcohol, spirits and wine are better than ale. But yes, you do have to monitor blood glucose becauase alcohol has a definite effect on levels. Some people drop while others go up.
So go ahead and have a treat. But be responsible.
But once blood is under control a little can't hurt once in a blue moon.....
I try to stick to less sweet wines but they can turn out to taste like paint stripper lol...
anyway thanks again
Beer has a lot of carbs which turn to sugar, but Miller light only has 4 carbs, if memory serves.
The best news for me anyway was hard liquor has "none" no sugar. It is made with sugar, but is cooked out.
The sugar is in the mixes, so I will have a whiskey and diet coke as I see fit.
I have monitored my levels before and after a drink with very little change. The beer raises it ablot 10 for a few min. The whisky even less.
Everyone is different so you have to monitor. It can affect some meds for sure. Moderation is important.
I tried raspberry vodka with diet lemonade and like you monitored my blood, but found the end result better than wine.
Though it goes without saying, this doesn't give anyone with diabetes lincince to get blind drunk lol...but its nice to be able to have a little treat now and then.
Chris
