Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
I know there are substitutes......but blech.....some are not for me.
You are in good company (((((((((((Hugs))))))))))
It is pricier than the others, but I'll pay a few cents extra to get the pasta I've loved all my life.
It is so refreshing to have ppl who understand comfort the blow of this crazy disease.
I keep forgetting the name dreamfield when I go shopping.....so am writing it down once and for all.
I am still needing to loose weight and so that too is keeping me on the straight and narrow. It is nice to know that there is indeed some pasta friendly food that I can eat when the pasta fever hits :)
Some of the other changes aren't so bad and are long over due.
I treated my body horrible when I was younger. Found out that how you treat your body when you are younger accompanied by a gene I was unaware I possessed was not a good combination.....came back to bite me.
I'm also riddled with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) which makes for much confusion.
I am truly grateful for everyone's help.....including posting questions such as this......it benefits me as well....and hopefully quiets your anguish laurabp.
I assume you have a salt problem as well, I think that is worse than sugar myself.
Get a new cook book you can still have your Tuna Casserole just make a few adjustments, after a while you will never know the difference.
Don't be angry dear that will only give you high blood pressure and smile so you don't get wrinkles.
Yes Dreamfields pasta is good and it comes in noodles etc also. By learning to make substitutions you can still pretty much have the same things you had before. Just a matter of looking at the ingredients and figuring out how to change...dreamfields pasta of course for your tuna noodle casserole,
have you tried the salt substitutions? or better yet this is where you can get creative by discovering other spices. You might be pleasantly surprised.
As far as the eyes, etc this does have to be monitored, along with your feet and yearly physicals etc....so look at it this way...for diabetics we do become healthy lol
You would have thought it was Christmas morning right there in the store.....I was so happy.
I am very excited to try it....however, I have a few perishable items I need to eat first before they lose their nutirents or go bad.
I have to be careful about salt substitutes becuz I am on blood pressure meds......plus I have something else wrong with me (I suspect) and am waiting for Obamacare to kick in so I can see other specialty doctors. *sigh.
I'm just gonna focus on the good stuff for now.
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions.....it is so helpful :)

Believe what you want from their ads but read the truth about this fraud. I bought some, and tested every hour for 5 hours. It spiked me from my normal 95-100 to almost 180 after about 3 hours.
Don't try and do too much - get your head around carbs before trying to count cals/sodium/etc as well, or it will get overwhelming and frustrating, you can't count everything and have to still live your life.
As others have said, eye exams are important for everyone. Look into any discounts you can get - here in the UK if you have diabetes you get free eye exams. And if you work at a computer screen you may also get free exams plus a contribution towards glasses from your employer.
You may not need to completely give up your favourite foods, just make them more diabetes-friendly. Look up diabetic recipes, ask your doctor for a dietitian referral for advice, and find out what substitutions you can make. Remember it is not all about cutting things you enjoy for the sake of diabetes - that is not sustainable. Somehow you need to find a way to make changes while still retaining some enjoyment in life and in what you eat.
Are you also saying after a meal you are only 95-100?
Dreamfields is a scam. Always has been. I research, in depth, everything I eat. A carb is a carb. No such thing as a protected carb.
Do as YOU wish but please stop preaching unhealthy foods to newly diagnosed diabetics. Even better- post one single, independent, scientific paper that states Dreamfields is a diabetic safe food and is approved by DNA. You are harming folks by harping on Dreamfields. Are you, perhaps, an employee?
And if you continued to research, you will find that yes with some people the pasta doesn't work on them as well as others, same with any kind of foods. We all react differently, and we here have always told others that we all do not react the same with foods, meds or even our diabetes doesn't behave the same, we are not text book. That is why doctors have such different ideas.
There is nothing wrong with mentioning a food for someone to try out as a substitution for the regular
I also read all the comments and some ppl were saying the same thing and others said it did not work for them, but there was more good written about it than bad.
I have read labels on everything I buy and I am mortified that leading brand companies are misleading their products with false advertising and yet are not under fire.....hhhhhmmmmmm.
Makes me think the person who did the article has an ax to grind just for the sake of doing something to do.
I do not feel mislead by anyone on the boards and I can certainly read labels and know how to do critical thinking all by myself.
I am excellent in doing research and do a lot of it!
I read MANY articles and ask a lot of questions before jumping to conclusions about my research.
I don't understand the hostility about a theory with not enough evidence to support it that Dreamfield is a fraud.
I bought ONE box the other day and am going to give it a try to see if it works for me. If it does.....great......if not......oh well. It's a trial and error kind of disease. I feel I've been an undiagnosed diabetic for a few years now and so if it raises my BS one time.....it will be ok.
The hostility about one product on this thread was more disturbing to me than the simple suggestion from members trying to help me.
I am doing my own research on what will work best for me.
If you don't like Dreamfield and it isn't working for you, just say it doesn't work for you and leave it at that....ok? Thanks
