Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...

Hi I just joined the group.Iwas diagnosed with diabetes in my thirtys. But I feel I was diabetic way before I was diagnosed and it just went undetected. When first diagnosed I was only on Metformin which was not helping my blood sugars at all it seemed. Then I was put on Metformin and Glipzide,Still was not able to get my blood sugars under control. As of over a year ago I was put on insulin and now am able to get my blood sugars under control.I still struggle when I do not watch what I eat.And I need to get out and start walking to try and lose some weight. With being diabetic I now have nuropathy and constant pain in both legs and arms I have two what I call trigger fingers on each hand my pinky figer and middle finger on the other.I am hoping for some advice and encouragemet from other memebers of the group on ways to help get my diabetes undercontrol and keep it under control. And hopes of meeting friends for support.

If you only know one thing about me, it should be _____________________.

If you have any questions, please ask there is much info on this board.
you take it one day at a time, your diet is a healthy diet, not a "diabetic" diet. Watch the fried foods, the white breads, pastas, rice and potatoes. the white food items tend to hold the numbers up longer and higher as does the fats in the fried foods. Yes you can have fruits, etc just watch the portion sizes.
Watch portion sizes in your meals, keep a food diary and track the carbs per meals (I only do this for about a week once a month) this gives you an idea how you are doing, how the food reacts with your numbers. You can use sites such as Sparkpeople or Lose it to help.
Of course exercise is so important.
I also had a trigger finger that went from zero to 100 in a couple months, do have some neuropathy in my toes but once my numbers got back into control, mine got a little better, damage wasn't permanent
are they giving you anything for the neuropathy?
you made the right choice to take control and to join us. come talk to us and ask all the questions you have...
