Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
This did not show up in the discontinued or recall section of my plan site.
I'd check with the pharmacy, etc. doesn't make sense. If something changes my insurance plan immediately will call me if I am affected and not once have I heard about this. but who knows
This is the FDA site that shows shortages and discontinuation of meds and it is not listed there either, maybe the pharmacy is just going thru a shortage? sounds weird - check with another pharmacy?
I too recently went through a nausea stage and so has my mom.....our numbers have been a little high too......I think we may have a bug and not a reaction to Metformin seeing as we both are going through this at the same time IDK....it's just a guess.
I hope your stomach settles down and the slow release med is available soon.
I have no symptoms with 500 x 2 . I take one at breakfast after eating and one at dinner after eating.
Good luck.

Universal Drugstore lists on their web site the Metformin 500 ER mg. tablets here for $49 dollars. You can call them to change the quantity and you can send them a pic of your RX via email, or fax if you have a fax.
I just ordered some stuff from them - it took more than 3 weeks, but it was packed fine. It comes Certified Mail so you have to sign for it.
You health ins company will probably not cover the cost, since it's on line and in Canada, but my doctors had no problems writing out the scripts for me - quantity changes and all.
There is a shipping charge unless you order more than $100 dollars worth of stuff, but they have a lot there, even over the counter meds.
Hope this helps you.
