Diabetes Type 2 Support Group
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or does not make efficient use of it. Insulin is a hormone needed to convert food into glucose, a sugar that the body uses for energy. Without enough insulin, glucose can accumulate in the blood, and can cause serious health problems such as heart disease and strokes and organ damage...
Take a second opinion
Exercise all you can or be active all you can. Just keep moving I guess is what I'm saying. Sounds like you're on the right track. If you level out don't get discouraged.
I stopped eating ice cream (lots of it) comletely and in 6 months my A1C dropped to 6.5. Now it's 6.0 and I've never taken any medication to help me. I'd just rather not.
My Dr. never felt I needed to take Metformin and I'm glad he did not.
Keep up the good work!!
thanks for advice
What DOES battle the disease is intermittent fasting. It lowers insulin resistance and raises insulin sensitivity. It is not dangerous for us to engage in. I encourage people to investigate low-carb-high-fat (this means GOOD fats such as avocado, olive oil, nuts, unsweetened nut butters, coconut oil), plentiful fiber, MODERATE protein (no more than 2 small servings of HEALTHY protein per day-- no bacon, processed meat, red meat) dietary lifestyle with intermittent fasting. I fast dinner to dinner the following day, twice per week. Since I eat the way that I do, I am NOT hungry. I can easily distract myself and maintain the fast when and if I DO feel a little hungry. I do, by the way, have coffee with plenty of full-fat cream every morning, even when I am fasting. (full fat products do NOT raise one's cholesterol levels, triglyceride level, or cause or prevent weight gain. They have FAR less sugar/ carbohydrates, and so do NOT trigger insulin production on one's body. Full fat products are healthy and, of course, delicious. They keep one feeling plenty satisfied, so that one does not crave sugar and starch-y foods or junk food).
I lost 40 pounds and have kept the weight off for nearly a year, thus far. My blood glucose numbers below pre-diabetes level and have stayed there. My lipid (cholesterol, triglyceride) numbers are back to normal. I no longer have high blood pressure. I feel much more mentally clear (didn't know that I DIDN'T feel that way previously). I have tremendous energy. I look and feel 20 years younger and LOVE the way the dietary change in lifestyle has made a difference in my life.
I am not and never have been interested in fad-based diets or popular pseudo-science. Evidence-based dietary plans are the ONLY things I consider. Then, I carefully and methodically try them out-- eating to my meter-- so to speak. That is WHY I adhere to this lifestyle now.
I encourage others to investigate, pour over the associated research, and then try it out IF interested. It beats trying to lose weight and failing miserably since triggering insulin production when eating carbohydrates and too much protein causes weight gain and weight storage-- a losing battle that correlates with the disease progression of type 2 Diabetes.
