Hi. We found out my 3 yr old baby boy has diabetes. It still feels surreal saying it. I don't know if there are any parents out there with T1 kids but if there are I'd love to hear from you. I finally got home from the hospital today and I'm able to relax and let it sink in and I’m really having a hard time. My heart is breaking and I cant stop crying for my baby. His little fingers are probably raw already. I just need someone whi understands.

My son was 17 when diagnosed as he went into a coma at home and was taken to the hospital via the ambulance. It was pretty scary back then.
I am sorry for your son and yourself. Obviously there is a period of adjustment involved. But give it some time, it will sink in and it will start being part of daily life, and your child will not know anything different. I had a friend who was diagnosed at 13, and honestly I believe the younger the diagnosis the better - he doesn't know anything other than this to work it into his routine. And honestly, his fingers will toughen up to the blood testing!
I am not saying that being a diabetic is always the easiest thing in the world, but its not the end of it either. You can live a full and wonderful life with diabetes, I'm coming up to 21 years with it now and I have a degree and a masters, I have travelled abroad, I live with a wonderful fiancé and my diabetes does not get in the way of any of that. Honestly, your son is going to be just fine! Take care! Best wishes.
