If your child is diagnosed with diabetes, find support and share your experiences here. Caring for a child with diabetes is challenging. We're here for you."
I wanted to be healthy but found it difficult as I felt completely alone when I was diagnosed. (A few days before my 12th Birthday) I tried to follow what docs said but it was so much to handle all by myself I found it easier to lie and just say I'm fine. I've had other issues/complications and have had several doctors who kept passing me off because they couldn't get me controlled.
I can paint a picture for inspiration... I'm only 26... A few years older than you and from my uncrontroled beginnings I have neuropathy, lung damage doctors always are worried about my thyroid function and the eventual failure of my kidneys. I was recently released from the ICU with DKA.... And now I have to take leave from my career.
I'm a photographer and work part time as a model. I get to do what I love every day but now my health is jeopardizing that. I wish someone was their to help me early on but it just wasn't the case. Take heed and try the best to get the best for yourself.
Never feel ashamed or uncomfortable always strive to get what you want out of life no matter your situation. Diabetes is what you have not who you are. It took me a LONG time to realize that.
I'm on track to recovery but my body just isn't bouncing back like it once had you never know sometimes how your body will react.
With your relationships, ask for help. People in your life are their to help and support you. Check your numbers and just remember you have a long full life to live and never veer off that path of successful control. Talk to your doctor about what therapy is best fr your situation.
Best of luck to you on your journey for better control! That's very commendable at a young age.
Does your hospital run a diabetes course of any kind? Ask them to see what they can offer. You need support to stay on track. Look into diabetes charities too, see what is out there and who can help. You may also need counselling, diabetes can be really tough for some people and there is no shame in that.
