maybe instead of pens u could use shots

Got to ask the usual silly questions you probably have mulled over yourself
1) Is the insulin expired?
2) Was the insulin ever kept in extreme hot or cold?
3) Are you rotating your sights (scar tissue can be an issue even if you dont feel a lump)?
4) Are you feeling like you could be coming down with a cold, flu, or have an infection anywhere (these all cause us to be more insulin resistant)?
5) Hormonal changes? (I see you are male but I do recall my cube mate who is a type one male commenting about how just suddenly out of the blue after he finished growing he just need more insulin - like over night it happened and its never gone back down)
6) Are you seeing any liquid, including blood, come out after you remove the needle?
All these questions probably didn't answer yours but hopefully it helps narrow down what it could be or gets you thinking of some other ideas of what it could be.

Smart move on getting yourself scheduled for a clinic just wish it was sooner!

Do you have the phone number of one of your doctors/nurses? If not when you go to clinic, try and get hold of it.

Have you checked for ketones? It might be wise to do so if your blood sugar is staying high.

Could it be a defect with your meter? Have you calibrated/coded it?

Let us know what they say at the clinic.

My son had the same issure with pens and shots - no mattter what we did he stayed high. Dr put him on the pump and his levels are much better.

I've had to increase my insulin basil and bolis rate a few different times since I was diagnosed 4 years ago. Our bodies change depending on stress levels, activity levels, hormones. And of course panicking always makes it worse. Standard practice is to increase your bolis by two points until your fasting level is between 90-100. Then once that's corrected you do the same thing with your basil, increase by 1-2 units per carb until your BG is around 140 2 hours after eating.

If your levels are remaining REALLY high like 400+ and this method doesn't bring them down quickly then go to the ER and tell them you need help bringing your BG down.

my sugars are doing same, but if i get up and walk it drops low 60-80

ayup, I had this problem a few weeks back, I was stressed to hell though. Are you stressed or ill? I also had laryngitis at the time. What are your ketones at? That to me seems like quite a small dosage to be fair. I'm a hell of a lot smaller than you and I'm on 3 units for every carbohydrate portion. Maybe try upping your dosage, and then talking it through with the clinic, I upped my own dose in the hope that it would work and it did, im running at constant 5s and 6s now :) Hope it gets better! x

thanks dor your help i was wondering if stress could have anything to do with it and yes i have been fighting pneumonia for over a month. i will try changing my dose.

hi, its no problem, happy to help. Stress has a huge affect on blood sugar levels, and I'm pretty sure pnuemonia will have a massive effect too (I've never had it but if it affected me with Laryngitis then it makes perfect sense to affect you with something as big as that) are you better now? Hope you are, if youre changing your doses though, just keep a bit of an extra eye on your blood sugar levels, just to see how youre reacting to the changes, i had to do that until it settled. This happens to me 3-4 times a year, and it lasts anywhere from 3 days to three weeks. I go from taking my normal dose, to all of a sudden getting 300+ blood sugars. It takes 3 doses or more to bring it down, then it drops to the 40's, then back to 300. I've been looking for an answer for years and no doctors could tell me anything. I personally think it is an auto-immune response, however I have no proof of anything. If you become enlightened, please let me know.

I try to stop eating carbs when this happens; your blood sugar won't go as high, and I find it sometimes it ends the excursion sooner.

I had this problem with the pens too, I was on humalog pen and when I switched to vial my sugar came right back down. I am on 10 units each meal and 44 units of lantus at night

At times I have inability to get my blood sugar under control, the doctor told me that times hormones can come into play and suggested I take birth control pill. FYI
