Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
IDK if you see anyone but I have a therapist and a psychiatrist. I use meditation and light therapy (I get SAD every other year). I actually felt a big different in just a few days with the light therapy. IDK if it works on regular depression but it can't hurt. When we are depressed, we stay in and don't get enough light, which contributes to depression for a lot of people. I also take an antidepressant. I go for ECT soon and am hoping that that will pull me out of this whole mentally to focus on other important things.
If you cycle, a therapist may be able to help you figure out your triggers and how to handle them. I'm sorry you lost your dad. My best friend lost both parents and she's only 2 years older than me. It's a profound loss and I see how much she hurts still.
My 2nd cousin didn't have it easy growing up. I was very afraid for her. Now she's finishing a PHd and getting married. I thought that would be me and the me now would be her. I even had an aunt tell me to be like her because if she can, you can. Thanks and f off auntie. I'm happy and proud of her. I'm glad I was wrong.. I love her and worried for her. Unfortunately, I was wrong about me too. So in a way I understand looking at your siblings and comparing yourself to them. I can't deny some jealousy. But she didn't get hit with major depressive disorder. She is completely mentally healthy. I, unfortunately, inherited this from my mother.
I think your best bet is to find what triggers you and how to change how you cope with those triggers. A therapist can help you with that. They listen and can be more objective about ourselves than we can. If you see one now, discuss this with them. Best of luck.
