Hi all,
There has been some discussion about trolls on here. Has anyone ever met a real life troll? Someone who shares the same characteristics of an internet troll, only they are right in front of you, or on the other end of the phone?
I recently broke off a 20 year friendship, because I finally realized she is toxic to me. She had a difficult childhood as I did, so we had that in common. We also went to the same Catholic school. I have always known her to lie & over-dramatize things, but over the years, she has gotten worse. It got to the point where she only made me feel worse. I am a fixer, I try to help or fix everything. I thought I could help her, & felt sorry for her for the longest time because I knew she was miserable, both with herself & in her marriage.
She lied to me ONE too many times, & it was like God whispered in my ear "enough". I totally cut ties with her, & expected her to bad-mouth me & lie about the situation. She didn't fail me.. She told a group of women that I have terminal thyroid cancer & didn't know if I would live...LOL. I had a BENIGN tumor that I had removed in May. She told them this, because one of them wanted my phone number. She had told them other lies about me, & therefore didn't want me talking to ANY of them. She has been confronted by one of these women & STILL lies. She was caught red-handed & still could not tell the truth. I have such low self esteem, I allowed her to mistreat me & USE me beyond belief. I want to confront her myself, but am thinking it would do no good. I am feeling better since I broke off communication with her.
Just sharing with you all the fact that trolls don't just exist on the internet, they can be your neighbor or "friend" ...BEWARE!

Yeah, a fellow wedding videographer who "be-friended" me, never sent me any actual paying business, just like to call me up to talk shop, then bitch about how long his video editing is taking him. I told him repeatedly "Then don't waste time talking to me!" but he wouldn't stop calling. Finally, I just put him in my cell phone contacts list so when he calls, I can identify that it's him, and I merely ignore the ringing phone.
That is WONDERFUL! It means that you have done it, and it is in the past and you are moving forward!

Women have always gotten power by discrediting other women. Men do this, especially in politics - It works in politics and in life.
Talking things out only works with people who have good values, who are honest and have a conscience. It's a small group, and gossips and trouble-makers aren't in it. The result is either denial, or feigning ignorance - nothing genuine. People who are sneaky and disingenuous do not change - their persona changes.
Glad to hear that you're feeling better now. You shouldn't blame yourself for not ending contact sooner. It probably happened when it needed to happen.

Real life trolls make fascinating material for informal psychological study. But they can be exhausting and dangerous for anyone who is vulnerable.
Never be afraid to stand up for yourself, and listen when your gut tells you a person has probably NOT got your best interests at heart.
koolman why would u call that guy a troll? I would take that as a guy who wanted somebody to talk to in the bus. why would he send you business, when he is in the same business? You have no use for him, if he is not sending you business? was that the clear agreement and reason when you exchanged contact info?
I don't think a guy calling up and wanting to talk, makes him a "troll".
All untrue! I felt betrayed by both of them, So I haven't talked to her since. I won't tolerate it. She is not the same person I loved for 35 years. I still don't understand why she did what she did.
