We no longer can JUST turn our chat off?... Now the only way to enable people from chatting with us is to hide our online status?

if you dont wanna use the chat feature, then you gotta sign off it after you sign into DS. it sucks.

But do I appear offline to my frens even though I only want to disable chat?

Meebo shows online/offline status based on if you have chat turned on or off.

So when your friends go to their "My Friends" tab and click on the online link they will see who is on DS.

When your friends look at the Meebo bar at the bottom they will see their friends who have Meebo chat turned on.

Yes, it is a bit confusing.

I do like the new chat, much better than the old chat. I also like the info bar that tells us if we have new hugs, PMs, stuff like that.

The other day somebody wanted to chat with me and I didn't know what the chat thingy was... I thought the thingy was just popping up to tell me someone was saying what their status was. I just closed the popup window thingy using the x in the window not knowing someone wanted to chat. LOL

It's just annoying now that I have to look at this bar at the bottom of my screen, my eyes are not used to seeing it. For a second I thought I was logged on myspace.

Yes the whole thing is messing up my screen. I can't navigate pages while I'm chatting.

Any other MAC users having a hard time with it?

It should definitely be optional. Personally I'm finding that it's taking up far too much CPU and slowing my computer down.

Why can't people just chat on skype or yahoo or msn?

Please at least make this feature optional.
