Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Usually it takes a few tries at diferent antidepressants to find the one/ones that work for you,so hang on,there is still plenty of hope and lots of options.Personally I never responded to any antidepressent except for one called Parnate, which is in a class of meds called MAOI's. These have dietary restrictions that MUST be followed,so doctors tend to prescribe them today as a last resort. However, they are extremely effective, often, for very severe, hard to treat depression, and they did save my life...There are always other options out there,I know how easy it is to get discouraged though, and if you are feeling that way now, you might want to tell your doctor you are not yet happy/healthy with your current treatment. There are adjustments and changes he can make--just make sure you are patient with each antidepressant. If you don't feel benefits from your meds now,you really could start to feel them in a few days,or a week---depending on how long you've been on them.Best of luck to you.
I am also working really hard on exercise and other natural things to do for depression - cognitive too. The meds can only do so much, I have come to believe after many years of this illness.
